Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home

The Intensive Learning Center (ILC) at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home (KCJH) provides education for youth who are court-ordered to attend school at the KCJH’s ILC. The ILC is a behavior-based program whose small student-to-teacher ratio provides focused, individualized learning. Our Gilmore Piano Lab is led by a music therapist who collaborates with classroom teachers to support instruction in core academic subjects as well as provide highly structured studio time, where students compose, perform, and analyze their own music.

Kalamazoo RESA Young Adult Program

In collaboration with the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency, the Young Adult Program (YAP) is a post-secondary program that provides a range of transition services to young people with disabilities, ages 18–26. Our YAP Gilmore Piano Lab is taught by a certified music therapist. Aligning with the principles of the Young Adult Program, student-directed goal setting, communication, and other adult living skills are reinforced through classroom songwriting, small group piano lessons, and drum circle exercises.
