The 2012 Gilmore Festival comes to a close on a high note with 2010 Gilmore Artist, Kirill Gerstein, performing a new work for piano and vibraphone that he commissioned by well-known jazz pianist Chick Corea. In a special guest appearance, the celebrated vibraphonist Gary Burton will perform The Visitors with Gerstein. Burton was Gerstein’s first teacher in the US at the Berklee College of Music nearly 20 years ago.
Gerstein will also perform two piano concertos with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra – Shostakovich’s lovely 2nd Concerto and Beethoven’s mighty 5th Concerto, the “Emperor.”
