Elizabeth and Sonya Schumann
2004 Gilmore Young Artist Elizabeth Schumann performs internationally as a recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. With contemporary music as a focus, Schumann has performed premieres of works by modern composers including Carl Vine, Hugues Leclair, and Mark Landson.
Her most recent concert innovation, Piano Theater, has toured throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia. For this tour, Schumann devised a piano recital interwoven with narrative to provide audiences an accessible window into the world of classical music. Schumann’s draw toward uncommon programming has led her to collaborations with chamber musicians around the world, including the Phoenix Symphony, the Australian String Quartet, the Janaki Trio, NeoCamerata, and many others.
Sonya Schumann made her orchestral debut with the Williamsburg Symphonia League at thirteen, performing as the Young Soloist Competition winner. She performs solo and chamber works internationally.
Nationally recognized for prose and poetry interpretation and performance, Schumann’s most recent involvement was in Piano Theatre, an interactive experience of music and words. Schumann serves as an ambassador for the Piano Arts Consortium, performing benefit concerts of solo and duo piano music across the East Coast.
