2010 Gilmore Artist Kirill Gerstein’s performance of Debussy’s Préludes, Book I at the 2018 Gilmore Keyboard Festival.
The twelve préludes of Book I, composed in the early 1900s, were among Debussy’s late works. They are short pieces, each creating a mood or painting a picture that can range from calm and idyllic to stormy and dramatic. Mr. Gerstein’s technical prowess is on full display throughout the performance as he moves with confidence through the composer’s vast range of sounds, colors, moods, and images.
