Speaker: Sophié van der Westhuizen, Kalamazoo College

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Sergio Tiempo began his piano studies under the tutelage of his mother, Lyl Tiempo, and blossomed early as a child prodigy. At fourteen, he made his professional debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Renowned for his raw energy and musical versatility, Tiempo makes his Festival debut with a recital  showcasing his artistic personality and cultural heritage. Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor will be paired with music written by composers from the Americas, including works by Piazolla, Copland, Ginastera and more.
