The Long Road Home: A Pianist’s American Journey

Lara Downes guides us through her professional trajectory as a classical American pianist. Learn about how she defines her career, chooses her repertoire, and keeps her work mission-focused. Ms Downes is a trailblazing performer, Billboard Chart-topping recording artist, and sought-after producer, curator, activist, and arts advocate. She is also the creator and curator of Rising Sun Music, a recording series that sheds light on the music and stories of Black composers, and is the host of AMPLIFY with Lara Downes, a video series from NPR Music that engages visionary Black musicians and artists in discussions about important contemporary topics. This lecture will be interactive.
