After more than 16 years since her debut at the Gilmore Festival, renowned pianist Yuja Wang returns for a solo program in Kalamazoo’s beautiful Chenery Auditorium.

Born into a musical family in Beijing, Ms. Wang studied piano in China, Canada, and in the U.S. at the Curtis Institute of Music. she returns for this special pre-Festival program as an international superstar, having signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon and established her place among the world’s leading artists.

Named a Gilmore Young Artist in 2006, Ms. Wang had her Gilmore premiere at the 2006 Festival. Ms. Wang later used funds from her award to commission Mason Bates in 2011. Mr Bates is a prolific composer, in addition to Ms. Wang’s Devil’s Radio, he has an extensive library of works, including a Grammy winning opera. They are both know for exploring how classical music converges with contemporary culture.

Ms. Wang continues to bring her charm, furor, and artistic intelligence to recitals on all the world’s most prestigious stages. Her effortless virtuosity and formidable technique (as well as that distinctive staccato bow) are not to be missed.
