Due to an unexpected illness, Murray Perahia has had to cancel his entire American tour for this Spring. Scheduled to be part of this year’s festival on April 28 at Chenery Auditorium, he has let us know that he is heartbroken to miss the opportunity to join us. Fortunately, he is working with us to reschedule for the Spring of 2019 as part of our Piano Masters Series.

While we are disappointed that Mr. Perahia won’t be at the 2018 Festival, we are delighted to share that the wonderful Brazilian pianist, Nelson Freire, has agreed to extend his upcoming tour and will replace Mr. Perahia at 8 PM on April 28 at Chenery Auditorium.

Mr. Freire has received international honors and awards, and has performed with many of the world’s major conductors, such as Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, and Riccardo Chailly. He has appeared with some of the greatest orchestras, including the Philharmonics of Berlin, London, New York and Israel, as well with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the orchestras of Munich, Paris, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Cleveland, and Chicago. We are thrilled that Mr. Freire is able to join us!

We apologize for any inconvenience and are diligently working with each of our current ticketholders to offer multiple options for Mr. Perahia’s performance.

Thank you for your interest in the Festival, we greatly appreciate our patrons and look forward to seeing you soon.
