The Livestream Manager is a new, temporary part-time position that will be responsible for the planning and delivery of over 30 livestream productions during the fall Gilmore Rising Stars concert series and the 2022 Gilmore Piano Festival.
About The Gilmore
Created in 1989 to honor the legacy of Irving S. Gilmore, the organization is known for its biennial Gilmore Piano Festival, a three-week celebration of piano music; the Gilmore Awards, a regular series of awards presented to deserving pianists based on a non-competitive process; and commissioning of composers to create new works for the piano. Since 1989, 14 biennial Festivals have been enjoyed by thousands of visitors to west Michigan. Eight Gilmore Artists and 36 Gilmore Young Artists have been recognized, and 35 new works have been created for the piano.
Two distinctive concert series—Piano Masters and Rising Stars—ensure that world-class piano music is presented continually. In addition, a major program dedicated to community engagement and music education touches the lives of thousands of area children and adults by offering neighborhood concerts, piano lessons in elementary schools, music therapy, group lessons for adults, toddler-friendly concert experiences, summer piano camp, master classes, and much more.
History of Livestreaming At The Gilmore
The Gilmore Piano Festival has been livestreaming concerts since 2013. During the 2020-21 Virtual Season we produced 14 concerts both from Kalamazoo and international locations. The Kalamazoo based events were recorded by a videographer using multiple cameras and an audio engineer with high-end audio equipment to replicate the best possible concert experience. The video is then streamed through Vimeo to our paywall which makes the event accessible through our website. The events that came to us from outside of Kalamazoo were pre-recorded or live and followed the same path of Vimeo-paywall-website. We also streamed two community engagement events that went through the same Vimeo-paywall-website path with the addition of simulcasting through our YouTube and Facebook channels. Depending on individual artists, each event is then available for replay through the website. Selected concerts are also segmented and portions are added to our YouTube channel.
The Livestream Manager (LSM) will set up the Vimeo events, review and organize graphics, and simulcast connections for all streamed Gilmore concerts in the 2021-2022 Gilmore season. The LSM will be on-site in Kalamazoo for the streamed concerts to facilitate the connections between the video and audio technicians, to begin and end the stream, to manage the flow of media in the stream, and to ensure the stream is of the highest quality. The LSM will be responsible for managing the digital connections for any off-site streaming.
The LSM will collaborate with Marketing on all graphics and program information for each stream.
The Livestream Manager will also manage the Livestream Digital Coordinator and a small crew of Livestream Technicians that, with the expertise of a videographer and a fleet of audio engineers, will stream 30+ events during the 2022 Gilmore Piano Festival.
Pre-Festival activities will focus on the organization of information and graphics for the Festival streams, and training on the entire process during the Rising Stars season (Fall 2021). From September to January, 5 hours minimum per week is expected. From January to April, 5-10 hours per week is anticipated. During the Gilmore Piano Festival, up to 40 hours per week could be expected.
The Livestream Manager will work closely with the Director of Operations and the Director of Marketing, and will report to the Director of Education regarding all technical and process matters.
