One of the best-known and most highly regarded musicians of our time, Emanuel Ax has built a career filled with high artistic recognition and achievement. He regularly appears with the great orchestras and in the important music festivals of the world. His solo recitals are always distinctive, and we last heard him here in 2004.
The first half of Ax’s concert is an ingenious mixture of musical variations: the seminal work (1930) of Aaron Copland, Haydn’s compelling set and perhaps his greatest solo keyboard work, and the delightful “Eroica” group by Beethoven. The program concludes with the monumental Symphonic Etudes of Schumann.
