Liaisons: Re-Imagining Sondheim from the Piano is a multi-faceted salute to Stephen Sondheim, conceived and performed by pianist Anthony de Mare. Co-produced with Rachel Colbert, new solo piano pieces based on individual Sondheim songs were commissioned from the likes of Fred Hersch, Frederic Rzewski, Ethan Iverson, Gabriel Kahane, Michael Daugherty and many others.
Much in the tradition of popular homages such as Red Hot + Blue (Cole Porter) and Monkiana (Thelonius Monk), Liaisons pays tribute to the unique genius of Sondheim and brings fresh perspective to his work. The Sondheim tribute will be presented in two separate, one-hour concerts with each new work introduced by de Mare.
