Gilmore Piano Camp 2015

The Gilmore’s week-long Day Piano Camp consists of enrichment activities designed for the beginning years of piano study. Students range in age from 7 to 13 years, and camp placement is determined through an informal piano audition.

The theme for the 2015 Gilmore Piano Camp will be “Bach to the Future,” coinciding with the year the character Marty McFly, from the Back to the Future films, returns to the future in the second film (2015!). The film Back to the Future was released in 1985, 300 years after the birth of Bach. Our 2015 camp is happening 30 years after the release of the movie Back to the Future II. It is also worth noting that the film’s composer, Alan Silvestri, will be 65 in 2015, which is the age Bach lived to. Another coincidence: one of Bach’s most famous pieces, The Goldberg Variations, consists of 30 variations.

Held at the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center, Gilmore Piano Camp is dedicated to expanding piano skills in an exciting outdoor environment. During the week, students are taught through an integrated curriculum of music, drama, art, nature and various water sports. Campers have access to a keyboard lab and participate in both solo and ensemble piano instruction with professional musicians.

Recitals by guest artists and camp faculty are attended by all campers. The week concludes with a final celebration recital by campers for their peers, friends and family.
