Gilmore Piano Camp 2015

The Gilmore Piano Camp will be returning for its 17th summer in July of 2015. Serving hundreds of young pianists over the years, Gilmore Piano Camp prides itself in being one of the few, if not only, piano-specific camps in a natural, outdoor setting. Gilmore Piano Camp focuses on both classical piano training and experiential, creative musical pursuits to create a well-rounded music experience. Held at the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center, Gilmore Piano Camp is both instructive and loads of fun.

Registration

Register directly through Sherman Lake YMCA online or by calling (269) 731-3000.

We recommend that pianists have two years of piano experience prior to attending camp. All campers must schedule a placement audition. Students will have opportunity to play for the Camp Director prior to Piano Camp to ensure correct placement. Contact the Gilmore Education Department at (269) 342-1166 or aschumaker@thegilmore.org to arrange yours today.

Preparation and Theme: Bach to the Future

“Bach to the Future” is a play on words referencing the 1985 science fiction comedy Back to the Future. At Gilmore Piano Camp, the week of music-making will focus on the contrast and the connections between old and new. Students are expected to select and prepare one piece of music by Bach (or similar composer), and one piece from the film score or contemporary pop genre. We recommend that notes, rhythms, and fingerings be learned prior to camp so that students can dig deeper into the music for a richer experience.

Gilmore Piano Camp Scholarships

Thanks to Education for the Arts and the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, The Gilmore awards merit-based scholarships that can cover up to 50% of the cost of camp. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Friday, May 1, 2015. Applications will be accepted after this date if scholarship funds are still available.
